Synopsis
When Atlanta housewife Abigail Campano comes home unexpectedly one afternoon, she walks into a nightmare. A broken window, a bloody footprint on the stairs and, most devastating of all, the horrifying sight of her teenage daughter lying dead on the landing, a man standing over her with a bloody knife. The struggle which follows changes Abigail's life for ever.

My thoughts
Yes! I'm totally into another series by Karin Slaughter. She left me devastated at the end of the Grant County series, but I forgave Karin and now I'm hooked, AGAIN! Will Trent is so mysterious and I can't wait to read more books about him. The Queen of Crime Novels did it again, a great book full of action and suspense.

Pros
  • Great plot: I love how this looks like one thing from the start of this book, but totally unravels like something very different a few pages later. I love the characters you meet, the new personal information you get about their lives and the way the plot unravels. The ending was so strong as well. I always expect a great plot from Karin Slaughter and I'm so satisfied if she does it again!
  • Lots of questions: Whoa. I had a LOT of questions to be answered while reading this book. Karin does a great job at answering only one at a time, what makes you want to read even more. I was trying to fill in some of the blank parts in this story, but at some point I just couldn't anymore and I also felt at some part that the investigation was at a dead point. Great to be so involved in a story.
  • Exactly what you'd expect: When I pick up a Karin Slaughter book, I just know it's going to be a 4 star book or a 5 star book. She is an amazing author and if you've liked her books before, you can pick up this one just as easily. I also like that you are sort of rewarded by following her series, because you get to love the characters step by step, until you're totally hooked!
Cons
  • Predictable: When we met more side-characters I figured out the shady ones pretty fast and I wasn't surprised the way the story unfolded. I couldn't answer the big question on what happened exactly, but I could tell you the guilty characters in this book and the innocent ones. This didn't take away any of my reading pleasure, but it made me give the book 4 instead of 5 stars.
Overall
Miss Karin Queen of Crime Slaughter does it again. She has me hooked in yet another of her series and this will be very bad for my wallet indeed. The third book in this series is on my ASAP reading list as well and I can't wait to read more from the author that made me fall in love with crime novels!

Other opinions on this book
"This is the Slaughter formula at its most efficient."
- Sunday Times

"Heart-pounding. Slaughter brings the same raw energy and brutal violence that distinguishes her Grant County Series to this new series with chilling results, while Trent and Mitchell, a pair of complex and deeply flawed heroes, will leave fans clamoring for the next installment."
- Publishers Weekly

Memorable quotes from this book
"It was getting to be so ridiculous, she was surprised there weren't special schools for the boring, average children."

"Everyone had a reason for everything they did, even if that reason was sometimes stupidity."
