Synopsis
I never meant to be the other woman… Jake and I felt a connection the moment he walked into my life, an attraction both of us tried so hard to deny. Still, I found myself longing for the very thing I couldn’t have.

I didn’t set out to fall in love with Jake. Not when he clearly wasn’t mine.
He was my mother’s.

My thoughts
This book contains a bit of a taboo. I decided to try anyway, because I won the book in a Goodreads Giveaway. I'm so annoyed with all the people that are hysterically screaming: OMG THIS IS SO GROSSS, blablah. They didn't even try the book. It's not what it seems and it could surprise you in a good way!

Pros
  • Booklove: There is so much booklove in this book and because of it I can relate with the characters so easily. I love the fact that people can have a connection over books. The main character is also a book sniffer, like I am. People are always weirded out by me sniffing books, but I just love it! The connection was easily made with the main character.
  • POV's: The book is written from 2 POV's. You can read the actual struggle that the characters have with all the things they are going through. You're also reading how they feel about the other and how some decisions they make are hurting so much. I could easily switch and I usually don't like the different POV's in a book, but June Gray did really well and I loved it.
  • Romantic: The book is so romantic. There were a lot of feelings involved and the book is much more romantic than I first thought. The blurb and cover put you on the wrong track and I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I would put it in the Romantic genre after reading it, while I would put it in the Erotic genre before reading.

Cons
  • Cover: The cover doesn't match the story, to my opinion. The cover that was chosen, together with the blurb makes it look like it's an erotic book while I do believe it's much more the romantic genre. I would've chosen a different cover.
  • Escalated quickly: The tension that is building is so well written and I loved every part of it. To my opinion, it escalated too quickly and I would've loved for the tension to build a bit more.
Overall
Don't judge a book by it's cover is definitely true for this book. It was so romantic and reminded me of The Notebook and La La Land, at some point. I loved the characters and how the story is about feelings, feelings that you don't want and choices you have to make because of those feelings. I'm a June Gray fan! Yay for romance!

Thanks for reading!
