Synopsis
As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob - knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?

My thoughts
Thanks to Arjen for dragging me through this way-too-long book. Twilight books are a bit like a bad car accident. You don't want to see it, but you will watch anyway. I just feel that this series gets worse with the books that come along. One of my pet peeves is that I have to finish once I'm in a series, and I'm glad we only have one book to go. I'm also a bit scared, because it's HUGE. Will probably take us 6 months.

Pros
  • Jacob: Jacob is my favorite "main" character in this series. I love how harsh and brutally honest he can be with Bella. Since she's spoiled as hell by the Cullens and especially Edward, it's always refreshing to read the scenes that involve Jacob.
  • Plot: The few chapters that evolved around the plot were exciting. I think this book could have easily been 250 pages with the plot that it had and then remove all the whiney sad emotional blah blah from this book, and it would get 4 stars. Because the plot is exciting, the adrenaline is there, the fight is there, the mystery is there. I liked that part of this book.
  • Side-Characters: Skip Edward and Bella and their BLEH romance, and the book would be nice. Alice is a nice character, I like Charlie and the other Cullens as well.
Cons
  • Self-pity: The whole book revolves around Bella feeling guilty, feeling sad, pondering, whining, not knowing what to do. She feels so sorry for everyone around her that they have to deal with her and UGH, I just can't.
  • Selfish: I think Bella is also very selfish and that makes me just annoyed with a character in a book, or just generally people who are selfish. She hurts the people around her and keeps telling herself that she cares about them. She's using both Jacob and Edward and they both let it happen. Jacob is at least not always that nice towards Bella, which she deserves. But Edward and the way he ADORES her, it's just not believable. Everyone would get sick of Bella one day.
Overall
I'm turning in one of those "I-hate-Twilight" people and I can't help it. I definitely went into this series with a clean slate. I decided I wanted to see for myself if I liked this series. The first book got 4 stars from me, but I remember thinking it was a bit over the top. New Moon got 3 stars and just had so much DRAMA. This book is getting 2 stars from me. What will the last book bring me?
