Two Short Stories #12

Today I will be highlighting two picture books.
One of them is a picture book about twins, you might recognize them if you've read my short stories posts before. The other one is a picture book about carrying a full backpack.

Let's dive right in.

Title: Mac & Madi Get Sporty
Author: Linda Herron
Pages: 38

If you've been following my short stories for a longer time, you might recognize Mac & Madi. I definitely did remember the girls so I was excited when the author asked me to review this book about the twins as well.

What I like is that if you read this second book in class or as a parent that it shows to children that there are not only standalone books, but also series. That you can enjoy your favorite characters in more books.

Again, the pictures are gorgeous. I remember really liking them the first time I opened the book, and I'm still a fan. They are so child-friendly with beautiful colours and very recognizable people and objects.

I also liked the fact that this story can open up conversations about brothers/sisters but also about friends that want to do things together, but should also make their own choice. It shows that you can still be best friends if you do what you love.

Title: Ollie's Backpack
Author: Riya Aarini
Pages: 36

The choice of words in this book was at some parts very playful, with made-up words and sounds, love it. The bit of humor that was sometimes behind it was fun too, I can see kids laughing about someone trying to fit an igloo in a backpack.

The pictures are beautiful, colourful and you could look and see different things every time. Little details here and there were nice.

How the story unfolded wasn't clear to me at first. It looked like Ollie was ready for a new day to fill up his backpack, but then I thought that his backpack was already full and then a tree and animal started talking, so I was a bit confused

Later on I catched the message behind the story, and that is definitely worth the time in the classroom, or for kids who worry a lot. It's about your backpack being full, and carrying all your worries with you all the time, the message is so strong and I'd love to read something like that in class if I'd have a younger age group.

Both books were fun to read and definitely worth the time.
Did you read any good short stories lately?
