Synopsis

On a mining outpost in the Inner Worlds, a young woman dreams of the stars. When she falls in with a motley crew of bounty hunters seeking to avenge an injustice, Novi believes her dreams have come true. But her journey has just begun.

Led by the only man to bring the mightiest army in the sector to its knees, the crew is engaged in a wily cat and mouse game with the powerful Guild Coalition. With her new shipmates, Novi dodges space outlaws and greedy corporations, mingles with Synths and settlers, jumps the Star Portal Labyrinth and discovers a mysterious legacy bequeathed by the Gods. But each exhilarating adventure raises terrifying questions about her. Can Novi find the answers she seeks before time runs out for her?

My thoughts
I am so glad that I've said "Yes" once to a request from Petra Landon to review one of her books. I have been hooked ever since and have had the pleasure to receive ARC's from her. This book is totally different from anything I've read and still feels like a Petra Landon book, so that's the main reason I gave it 5 stars. Of course, it's a great story, with great world building and a great set of characters... It's what I'm used to when reading one of her books. I'm spoiled like that...

Pros
  • Different: The biggest pro is that this book is so different from anything Petra has written. She has a Fantasy series and a Sci Fi series, but they are usually laced with a nice dose of alpha testosterone and a good romance. This book did not have the romance and I still felt like I didn't need in in this book. The book gave me so many different things as in world building, characters and a dose of mystery. This book proves that Petra Landon is not done developing her books, stories and herself as a writer.
  • World building: I think that this is a pro in every review I write for Petra Landon but I still can't wrap my head around the fact that the worlds in her books come from her MIND. She makes them up and it's so believable and I'm able to picture it vividly. It's just one of her best characteristics as a writer.
  • Writing style: I think I would be able to pick a book from Petra Landon from a big pile of books based on the writing style. I've read 5 of her books now and the writing style feels familiar by now. I remember complimenting this author on the choice of words in her books and I still feel that that's a great pro.
  • Mystery: This book is laced with a good dose of mystery. First you're on a trip with Novi, trying to find out where she ended up. Then there is a big mystery around Novi herself and I was eager to find out what it was. I'm just happy that I didn't need the romance in this book because the mystery was so good.
  • Ending: Oh boy. I LOVE how books end with cliffhangers and I can't wait to see where it's going from here... I kinda need it... Now? Petra? Please?

Cons
Nay.

Overall
I'm really grateful that I, as a blogger, am able to follow Petra Landon in her journey while writing books. I just love these books so much and I hope that by reading my blog posts, more people will pick up her books. Because she's not just a good writer, but a good person as well, always checking up on me! Thank you, Petra.
