Synopsis
In Room 217 of the Lakes Region Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic, something has awakened. Something evil. Brady Hartsfield, perpetrator of the Mercedes Massacre, where eight people were killed and many more were badly injured, has been in the clinic for five years, in a vegetative state. According to his doctors, anything approaching a complete recovery is unlikely. But behind the drool and stare, Brady is awake, and in possession of deadly new powers that allow him to wreak unimaginable havoc without ever leaving his hospital room.

My thoughts
Thanks to Arjen for reading this trilogy with me. We both agreed that the first book was the best one in the series, the second one was good as well and this one was so-so. I'm not really sure if I needed a trilogy with these books. I'm still glad that I've read the books, because I could read Stephen King books all day, the writing style is just so flowing and easy to get through.

Pros
  • Creepy: The beginning of the book with the Zappit game and all the suicides felt very creepy to me. I had no idea what was going on and it felt like something big was going to happen. The fact that there are things moving out of themselves in room 217 gave me the creeps as well.
  • Different: This is different horror than anything I've read so far. I read gory horror most of the time. This book was creepy, but the fact that a game was involved was different. The way mind-control was a part in this book combined with the game made it something unique.
  • Ending: I was so ready for a good death in this book. I was happy at the end, it's all I'm going to say.
  • Writing style: Like I said: I could read Stephen King all day. It's so fluently and I'd still be able to recognize the writing style. I can appreciate that in a writer. And let's be honest, this author's last name is King for a reason.
Cons
  • Hodges: It's so obvious in the beginning of the book that there is something wrong with Hodges. It's just irked me a bit and I felt like it could be more subtle. I'd also liked it to be a big shock, all the things that are happening to Hodges, but it wasn't. Had it figured out already.
  • Trilogy: The first two books are so believable and that made it socking and even more vile. This book wasn't that believable to me and it just didn't live up to the other two books in this trilogy.
Overall
Still glad that I've read this book, because the ending left me satisfied. Everything I read by Stephen King is always flawless when it comes to the writing style. I'm just a big fan and it pains me a bit that I have to give this book 3 stars, but I feel like it just didn't live up to the other book and I gave that one 4 stars... So there you go.

Other opinions on this book
"A satisfying conclusion to this crackerjack detective series. As the book's title suggests, there is finality and loss in the final pages. Readers may find themselves wiping away a few tears as this well-written, involving series comes to an end."
- The Seattle Times

"King works his customary storytelling magic, unspooling the plot threads almost as quickly as readers can turn the pages. If you're wrapping up in the trilogy, enjoy. If you're just getting started, you're in for a thrilling ride."
- The Associated Press

Memorable quotes from this book
"Because things can get better, and if you give them a chance, they usually do."
