Synopsis
Three and a half years ago former Grant County medical examiner Sara Linton moved to Atlanta hoping to leave her tragic past behind her. Now working as a doctor in Atlanta's Grady Hospital she is starting to piece her life together. But when a severely wounded young woman is brought in to the emergency room, she finds herself drawn back into a world of violence and terror.

The woman has been hit by a car but, naked and brutalized, it's clear that she has been the prey of a twisted mind. When Special Agent Will Trent of the Criminal Investigation Team returns to the scene of the accident, he stumbles on a torture chamber buried deep beneath the earth. And this hidden house of horror reveals a ghastly truth - Sara's patient is just the first victim of a sick, sadistic killer.

My thoughts
You're probably like; Oh, here she goes again, fangirling about Karin Slaughter. But, yeah, that's exactly what I'm going to do during this post. I'm SO glad to read another book featuring Sarah Linton. I have been a little bit mad about how Karin ended the Grant County series, and I got to talk about it with her in person, which was so cool. I'm totally ready to dive in, and to read another book with Sara Linton, hoping she won't break my heart AGAIN.
Don't read this book, before finishing the Grant County Series!

Pros
  • Shocking: This book is gruesome and shocking. I thought that The Good Daughter was vivid and had way too many details, it was so gory. This book has that same quality. Yes, I call it quality. You really have to read what has been going on and done to these women, before you get the urge the GBI feels. That's something Karin Slaughter shines in, making you feel the urgency and the danger.
  • Plot: LOVED it. It's totally different from anything I've read by her and I think I've read about 11 books by her. She can surprise me every time and I know the plot will be great when I start reading one of her books. I found the other 2 books in this series a bit predictable, but this was really well thought through.
  • Characters: YAY! I LOVE Will Trent and I LOVE Sara Linton, so for their storylines to come together in this book was so much fun to read. I couldn't wait to get another page on Sara and to feel her personality shine through on the pages. *dances*
  • Pacing: The pacing is great. I love how Karin sometimes ends her chapters with a little cliffhanger, it makes me want to keep reading. The chapters aren't that long, which makes it easier to finish as well.
Cons
I can't..

Overall
Karin is not pushed from her throne as my one favorite author. I've been reading her books since I was 14 or something, and I still love to read her books. Her Grant County Series was the first ever series of books that I put on my shelves. This author really has a special place in my book-heart. I just love everything that's written by her, it's so GOOD. It's addicting really.

Memorable quotes from this book
"You didn't realize what was passing you by until you slowed down a little bit to get a better look."

"Will always assumed that when people insisted they weren't lying about a particular thing, that meant they were lying about something else."

Thanks for reading!
I'd love to talk books, so let me know what you think about this book/review.
