Synopsis
Bryce Quinlan and Hunt Athalar are trying to get back to normal―they may have saved Crescent City, but with so much upheaval in their lives lately, they mostly want a chance to relax. Slow down. Figure out what the future holds.

The Asteri have kept their word so far, leaving Bryce and Hunt alone. But with the rebels chipping away at the Asteri’s power, the threat the rulers pose is growing. As Bryce, Hunt, and their friends get pulled into the rebels’ plans, the choice becomes clear: stay silent while others are oppressed, or fight for what’s right. And they’ve never been very good at staying silent.

In this sexy, action-packed sequel to the #1 bestseller House of Earth and Blood, Sarah J. Maas weaves a captivating story of a world about to explode―and the people who will do anything to save it.

My thoughts
Thanks to Jane for doing this buddyread with me. What a ride this has been. Sarah J. Maas is still on top of my list with only 5 star reads. I'm trying to be really critical but I just LOVE her books and I feel like some kind of bookish addict, but I love every second of it. This series has books that are HUGE, but if you're not afraid and love a good Fantasy, I would deff pick them up!

Pros
  • Plot twists: The plot twists in SJM books are just so well done and sometimes I feel something coming, but it's never actually what I think it is. And sometimes I don't see it coming at all. I feel like some books have plot twists in there just to shock you, but that's not the case in SJM books, in my opinion. Her plot twists really fit the story and sometimes are already set up in previous books. It's so brilliantly done!
  • Characters: I love the way SJM writes characters. I just always love every single one of them and they are so diverse and have their own personality and hobbies and I just don't have the words. In this book you have your favorite characters from the first book, but also a lot of new additions. It really makes for a whole new reading experience and I loved every single new character in this book, good or evil!
  • Scared: I was SO scared for the ending in this book. There are so many things that can go wrong and I just knew something horrible was going to happen. I will start fangirling about the ending in a sec, but just the feeling of doom and me just being scared every time I got closer to the ending was a really amazing layer in this book.
  • Ending: HERE WE GO PEOPLE! HOLE EPIC AMAZEBALLS. There was this one ending that I voiced to Jane and I was secretly hoping for it, and I was like.. Okay maybe not. And then we get to that one chapter... EVERYTHING I HOPED AND WANTED CAME TRUE. This ending is the best in the history of fantasy books. So, there, I just said it.

Cons
Memento mori.

Overall
I am a huge ACOTAR fan and I've said that nothing will ever top it, but I feel like it's in my #1 spot together with Crescent City now? The characters, the story, the plot twists and the ending are just DELICIOUS. I can't wait to read more and I keep checking all socials and SJM website, just tell me there is a new book, PLEASE.

Memorable quotes from this book
"Sometimes I catch myself enjoying a moment, and worry I'm enjoying it too much, you know? Like something could come along and ruin all of this if I let myself have too much fun or get too accustomed of feeling happy."

"He had no idea what the Hel he'd do now. Perhaps the answer wasn't some big, life-altering thing. Maybe it could be as simple as putting one foot in front of the other."

Thanks for reading!
I'd love to talk books; please let me know what you think about this book review.
