Synopsis
NARNIA...the land beyond the wardrobe, the secret country known only to Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy...the place where the adventure begins. Lucy is the first to find the secret of the wardrobe in the professor's mysterious old house. At first, no one believes her when she tells of her adventures in the land of Narnia.
But soon Edmund and then Peter and Susan discover the Magic and meet Aslan, the Great Lion, for themselves. In the blink of an eye, their lives are changed forever.

My thoughts
Thanks to Arjen for offering to do a buddyread on this amazing series. I have been in love with the movies ever since they were in the cinema. I know, I know, you should read the books first, but during that time reading wasn't my #1 hobby and I didn't even know back then, that there were books.
It's very clear that this is a children's book, but I loved it anyway.
Reading the books in publication order.

Pros
  • Children's Book: I don't read children's books that much, only aloud in my classroom. I always enjoy reading for the kids and I can definitely add this one to my read-aloud list. It's written in a way a child could understand and the narrator sometimes talks to "you" which is cute and fun.
  • Easy to read: I could've easily finished this book within a day. When I found out that the book was published in 1950 I was a bit scared. It's sometimes hard for me to read the English from that time. It was not the case in this book and it even added to the story and to the atmosphere.
  • Fun: So much fun, this book! From start to end, things happen, you meet lovely new characters and there is a good pacing. It was just so much fun to read this book and I would recommend it to anyone who loves Fantasy and won't mind that this is a children's book.
Cons
  • Could've been longer: I understand that children's books won't be 500 pages long, but it felt VERY quick to me and I would've loved to stay a bit longer in this book. It could've been a bit more describing of the surroundings or the feelings, or give me more history. I'm glad there are more books to come!
Overall
A real treat for anyone who loves fantasy, fast paced and adventurous books. This is a children's book and you can feel that when reading, but I didn't mind at all. I'm so glad that there are more books to come!

Memorable quotes from this book
"She did not shut it properly because she knew that it is very silly to shut oneself into a wardrobe, even if it is not a magic one."

Thanks for reading!
I'd love to talk books, so let me know what you think about this book/review.
