Synopsis
From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

My thoughts
First of all; Thanks to Rachida for reading this book with me! I can't imagine to ever NOT like a book by Sarah J. Maas. I'm stunned everytime that she comes op with these worlds, characters and PLOT TWISTS. It's amazing to read her books and I'm never dulled. She's also one of those writers where I'm not afraid of a big book. I know I'm still just going to rush through.

Pros
  • Celaena: She is one of my favorite characters from a book series. I think I like her even more than Feyre from ACOTAR, and that says a lot. This woman is fierce, strong and has a lot of secrets, she is cruel when she has to, but she has feelings as well. She cares for people and will do anything for them. She can be stubborn and get herself into trouble as well, but she just feels so REAL and that's why I love her the most.
  • Secrets: You think you know a lot, and you think you know how things will go, but trust me; in a Sarah J. Maas novel, you never do. I got to know much more about Celaena in this book and about all the secrets that she keeps, it all makes sense now!
  • Action: There are books where you see the cover and read the blurb and you're like: COOL, this as to be a good action book, and then you're disappointed. I love how Sarah J. Maas is really adding the Assassin-layer to this book and the action scenes are so cool. The book is packed with it and that's pretty unique.
  • Deaths: Yep, no one is spared. Your beloved characters will DIE. Why do we bookworms always love a good death but are still torn apart by it? Sometimes I'm even disappointed no one died and when someone does I'm still torn by a death... I'm so weird.
  • Ending: Ooh YEAH. I expected Celaena had a dangerous secret but I've never thought of this ending... Can't wait what's to come of it.
Cons
Don't make me.

Overall
It's so strong when an author can give you that feeling that their books are just ALWAYS good. I know that I'm going to read something awesome if I pick up a Sarah J. Maas novel. I don't know how she does it and I hope she will keep writing for a VERY long time, because I'm sure that I will love every book that I touch with her name on it.

Memorable quotes from this book
"I do not breathe, nor do I eat or drink. So, no, I am not alive. Nor am I dead, for that matter. I simply exist."

"The best lies were always mixed with truth."

"I worry because I care. God help me, I know I shouldn't, but I do. So I will always tell you to be careful, because I will always care what happens."

Thanks for reading!
I'd love to talk books, so let me know what you think about this book/review.
